The Cult of Aphex Twin is a podcast written and produced by John Doran on the elusivity and mysticism surrounding Richard D. James(Aphex Twin). Many techniques are used in this podcast to convey Doran’s narrative. He interviews multiple people, mixing his own interview and narration together to lead the listener through the story. In comparison with the audio paper manifesto some of the main points are met. For instance, his own interview recordings are of high fidelity, compared to interviews he had found of Richard D. James which were of lower fidelity, usually including background noise. We relate this downgrade in quality as mysterious, just like seeing a photo of big-foot where often the photo isn’t clear. This lower fidelity creates an aura just like a mythical creature, reinforcing the element of mysticism surrounding him. This production choice renders effects and sensations into the listener just like what the audio paper manifesto states.
Two other main points of the audio paper manifesto is it should be multifocal, assembling a diverse and heterogenous range of voices. As well as have multiple protagonists, narrators and material agencies. Doran does this by interviewing multiple different sources and using their words to paint a cohesive narrative.
