This was the second livestream performance I’d done over the second lockdown nearer the start of this year. Instead of being streamed live this was pre recorded which led to quite a different experience to what usually would have been expected when performing live online. In a sense it’s easier to perform with the pressure that you have to just start playing, not when you might feel ready, but when the stream cuts to you a rush of adrenaline hits you and off you go. Your concentration is heightened and you just play, not thinking about the consequences or what’s going on around you. Strictly the sounds you and the other band members are making. With this set there was more pressure in the fact I was more relaxed, in some ways it felt like practice because of the setting. We were playing to our time, we could start the set whenever we wanted as we had a lengthy amount of time to pre record the performance. More time meant that I could let my mind wander more easily during songs, maybe forget to change to a different preset on the Minilogue XD I was using or forgetting to come back in or out at the points where I’d planned to. I find to perform successfully and well I need something to give me adrenaline while performing because I often start to think about random things. For instance, the other day I’d been recommended videos on London gang beef and in the middle of this performance here I was thinking about the gang war between the Harlem Spartans of Kennington and 410 of Brixton. I need something to keep my concentration there.
