Sonic warfare and noise music, the physical and psychoacoustic reasons for listening

In certain genres of music, sounds are used that can be considered unpleasant or excruciating in mainstream media sources. Genres such as Industrial music, Power Electronics and other sub-genres under the wider umbrella term of noise music, in general, utilise and incorporate harsh and often piercing sounds. To begin I aim to highlight what constitutes an unpleasant sound, how parallels are drawn between sonic warfare and noise music, before looking into both the physical and psychoacoustic sides of how these sounds can cause instinctual responses in the listener. Finally concluding on how the listener might respond to this stimulus, whether negative or positive when listening to or experiencing noise music live.
