The initial idea for what sounds Rob suggested I should use in the piece included traffic sounds and general city ambience/hustle and bustle. After recording building works and multiple forms of traffic, whether that be roads, trains or humans, I decided to merge this with the pre-existing sounds I had recorded using modular synthesis and granular processing. After testing out various different arrangements and effects I decided it wasn’t going to work. I wanted was to pass the recordings through a buffer as I felt this should add a dystopian element to the sound. After this attempt I decided to experiment with my voice, making different sounds and passing them through a buffer. I don’t often use my voice so I was stepping outside of my comfort zone. Eventually I decided to use recordings of blowing on the mic causing distortion. Processed through a buffer, the sounds created are perfect for the atmosphere I am trying to create in the exhibition space.
