I’m currently in Bristol while I rehab my knee post surgery, so won’t be taking part in the Gallery 46 exhibition. However, I will be exhibiting my installation at an event me and my friend are putting on here in Bristol. It will be a cross discipline function including a skate video, DJs and the art exhibition where there will be a mix of different works from paintings to sculptures to sonic works like mine.

In the floor plan above room 2 will be where the art is exhibited. We have been given half of the space closest to the double door entrance. I’ll also be sharing the space with multiple artists with no physical or sonic barriers between each other’s work. Thinking about the acoustic ecology of the space and sharing the space, I’ve decided to use a single sound source [Idea 3] rather than a spatial concept with multiple sound sources [Ideas 1 and 2 on the blog]. I fear a spatial audio piece without any visual elements would assume the role of the soundtrack, a complementary element to the visual art on display to the visitor instead of its own piece outright. This may be because of our overpowering dependence on the visual. To offset this I’m focusing on trying to complement the sonic with the visual. The effects of the audio on the listener may be increased with a fitting visual element. Especially being surrounded by other visual works the visitor may not be expecting the sonic and so that visual element will help to pinpoint my piece visually with the other works in this space. Their will also be spill from room 1 where the DJs will be performing so an installation where I don’t create a sonic environment, rather add to the one that exists already makes more sense.
