Description

My Proposal consists of a collection of analog circuits which will interact with the audience and environment around it to produce a varying range of sounds. I will build these circuits in a fashion similar to the image below, tangling sound producing wires with other cables from my room, culminating in a large pile of electronic junk that will be located on the floor of the installation space. I am designing the circuits to create and alter sounds when light is shined on them through the use of Light Dependent Resistors. The audience changing light levels when standing over the installation and LEDs in the pile of cables will influence the amplitude, pitch and shape of the sounds produced. For this I will need a sufficient level of darkness in the space.

Concept

Conceptually, this piece is influenced by Tracy Emin’s ‘My Bed’. This is an installation where she exhibits her bed and her personal belongings as they were, in her bedroom when she isolated herself in her room for 4 days. I aim to adapt Emin’s concept sonically and relate it to my current experience of isolation while recovering from surgery. Where I further developed an urge to start creating sound producing circuits influenced by Peter Vogel and Eirik Brandal. You could say this is also a way to reflect on my experience in isolation as the day it will be installed will be my first day outside since starting this project.
